Have any of you guys ever experimented with the $79 strat style guitar kits offered on eBay? Was thinking of taking a shot and doing one and it seems pretty cheap - but wondering if it is pure junk? |

I'd probably save an extra $75 and get the kit from www.grizzly.com for 149.00 I've seen them in their showroom and they are pretty decent. YOu have to think about where these cheap eBay kits cut corners.. Pickups, wiring, tuners, neck.. all fairly important ![]() |

The $79 kits on eBay are from Saga, and they do not have a great reputation, though I have never built one myself, not enough courage. I have built a number of electrics by sourcing my own parts, and I do my own finishing. PM me with your email, and I would be happy to help you in any way I can. Also, you can see my Web Site for some ideas. Take care, Guitar Ed |

Hi Rich I did build one for my son a few years back. The string holes were off center to the neck center. I ended up redoing the body with a floyd rose tremelo . I also replaced the pickups. I agree to go with the grizzly kit. You will be better off. john |

Rich I built a Saga LP kit last year. The quality of the kit is not good. But I bought it because I wanted to try some colour staining and didn't want to experiment on one of my acoustics. I put the guitar together and it plays okay. The electronics suck. I am going to get a good set of pickups and then rewire the whole thing. After I do all that and may be replace some of the hardware it might be okay. If you can afford to buy something better do yourself a favour and get something other than Saga. Josh |

Rich, The saga kits are not real quality. The woods, etc are sub-par. If you want to have fun for real cheap I guess their o.k. But.....you would be better off getting parts from various suppliers, and piecing it together.(Warmoth,etc.) More $ for sure, but a much better instrument. I have never seen the Grizzly stuff, but just got their catalog and they do look alot better for your $. Mark |

I say build yer own. It really isn't that hard, especially if you don't put a carved top on the thing. Besides, it's fun! |
